The fact that the zc took time to finally announce the ODI team will always leave a lot to be desired , one of the undoing factor will be that they may just have been struggling to think who among the guys in the bubble would actually be a better fit this time around considering the fact that those who have performed in the local set up have dramatically failed to come to the party at the international stage and that’s a major cause for concern.
Another demerit that will put Zimbabwe on the back foot is the absences of our senior guys in the duo test captain Sean Williams and Craig Ervine.
In the recently completed 5 matches Zimbabwe have been heavily dominated by the Tigers which also makes the Tigers the more comfortable side the. Absence of Rahim would hàve been an issue but they do have a perfect fit in Liton Das though what’s still hunting them is their recent defeat by the West Indies which if it was a mental test that was going to work a little in favour of Zimbabwe because in their last ODI 8months ago the chevrons won against a well oiled Pakistan side in their own backyard.
Brendan Taylor comes in as the stand in captain and after his batting show was cut short in both inning of the lone test before he crossed 100 he will be hungry for more in the limited overs edition of the game.
In recent times Zimbabwe have proven they are a fighting side normally in the opening game of every series it was in Rawalpindi that they put up a fighting show in all their games resulting in the last ODI victory and they will have to build up from that.
Another exciting factor for the chevrons is the youthful addition to the team in the likes of Dion Myers , Tadiwanashe Murumani and Madhevere Wessly these three young players have already proven that unlike the domestic bullies they can make it big in the big stage which could be a positive vibe to the team Sikandar Raza’s return also adds value to the team and hopeful he will be hunting for some glory to give the team a win. There has been some talk about having Milton Shumba play or not and for me it would be a perfect yes ;Miller (Milton) as we commonly call him will be a great addition which will bring us the the batting line up Let me explain a few things in my thinking as to why .If Shumba plays he has to open,he would be too slow down the order and won’t be able to score quickly.. so him and Marumani open Taylor 3 so he could play his game with some field restrictions still in place..
Raza 4 needs time to bat. Wes and Myers come in 5 and 6 as our finishers as they have shown they can do it (Ok sort of)
